The beautiful Isle of Wight is an island just off the south coast of England. This sunny part of the English Channel is known for its beaches and seafront promenades, such as the very famous and sandy Shanklin Beach. In the Isle of Wight you'll find dinosaur remains and fossils in Compton Bay and Yaverland Beach. And, on the island's western point, The Needles draw in many visitors to look at the three huge White Chalk Rocks that are just behind a 19th century lighthouse. It's the largest and second most populated island in England, and locals call it simply that, just The Island. It's been a popular holiday destination since Victorian times because it has a mild climate, stunning coastal views and plenty of rich landscape.
