‘Girasole’ is Italian for ‘sunflower’, and there’s a suitably sunny aspect to this popular neighbourhood trattoria with its pastel greens, lemon and yellow tones, white-painted chairs and semi-abstract foodie artwork – plus vases filled with the namesake blooms in season. The kitchen follows suit, delivering a colourful repertoire of mainstream and regional dishes ranging from pan-fried goats’ cheese with rocket and red peppers, deep-fried calamari with courgettes or pig’s cheeks with sage and vinegar to linguine with langoustines, clams and asparagus or Umbrian sausage and lentil stew with rosemary focaccia. Stuzzichini snacks, grills and pizzas flesh out the repertoire, while desserts are a classic run through affogato, tiramisu, pannacotta and vin santo with cantuccini. There’s also a decent selection of Italian regional wines to cap things off. “A great local.”
