Rob Star has lived up to his name among north-east London’s pub enthusiasts, opening new venues at a rate of knots. This capacious boozer – which was in danger of being lost to redevelopment before locals started a campaign to save it – is his sixth venture in the area, following on from the success of The Leyton Star. The late-Victorian edifice, occupying a substantial corner site, also includes a heated outdoor terrace with fire pit. As with other Star pubs, nourishment is provided by street-food outfit We Serve Humans, so expect slow-cooked meat, prime burgers and the likes of crispy truffled mac'n'cheese – as well as Sunday roasts. Drinks have a local flavour, with craft ales from London brewers to the fore. Regular pub quizzes, a games room with pool and table tennis tables, and weekend DJ nights are also designed to keep Leytonstone leaping.
