The Hand in Hand is in Trimley St Martin, a small village on the outskirts of Felixstowe in Suffolk. It’s been the village’s only pub since the 18th century, with the decor and vibe matching these storied roots. The bar is central and beneath a low, wooden-beamed ceiling, there’s an open fire and plenty of deep set armchairs. You’ll also find a large outdoor area, ideal for the warmer months.
The food menu is a good balance of pub classics and modern updates. Any three bar snacks are £14.95, with options including crispy king prawns, chicken wings and nachos all on offer. For starters, there’s the likes of southern fried chicken strips, king prawn cocktail or pan fried mushrooms with stilton and garlic.
Mains are firmly grounded in pub favourites. This includes sausage and mash (also available vegetarian), steak and ale pie, scampi and chips, and fish and chips. Elsewhere, you;ll find hunter’s chicken, lasagne chicken tikka masala. There’s also a range of burgers, such as piri piri chicken and cheese and bacon. Three dishes from the grill round out the main courses: 8oz rump steak, 10z gammon steak or a mixed grill that features chicken wings. Pizzas are also on offer. Toppings include BBQ chicken and spicy beef.
On Sundays the Hand in Hand serves a roast. Beef, chicken or pork are the meat options; butternut squash and lentil filo Wellington is on hand for vegetarians. All roasts come with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and gravy.
