The Grandtully Hotel is a design-led experience in the middle of the Scottish countryside, a juxtaposition perhaps, but one that makes it all the more appealing.
Diners are afforded two options when eating with the team at The Grandtully Hotel. There is a more traditional dining room decked out with simple tables and chairs that create clean lines against the crisp white walls; and the bar where comfortable banquette seating and playful touches encourage a convivial atmosphere.
The hotel is run by Ballintaggart – a nearby farm restaurant with rooms – and maintains a similar ethos. All ingredients are sourced locally where possible and menus change regularly to reflect the seasons. Proper pub classics like fish and chips and steak and mash sneak their way onto the menu alongside more unusual serves like punchy curried cauliflower fritters or a locally caught piece of trout served simply with rich aioli and salty samphire that would struggle to disappoint.
The bar too deserves a mention as it’s run with real passion and panache. In a similar vein to the food offering, cocktails here are constantly developed so there’s a new offering whenever you happen in. The capable bar staff are able to shake up all the classics but can also advise on their current favourite concoctions which might make use of rhubarb from down the road or a homemade Negroni mix.
If you happen in outside of traditional mealtimes there are bar snacks to keep you topped up until tea and with a team of feeders (meant in the best possible way) you’re sure to be offered a solution to any stomach grumblings you may have. In fact, even if overnight guests arrive late on into the evening the kitchen have been known to leave out a charcuterie board to see them through to the morning. If that isn’t true hospitality, we don’t know is.
