Established by a born-and-bred Kensal Rise local and his wife, Gracelands is just the type of café you’d want to have on your doorstep. Warm, bustling and totally individual, it caters for the whole neighbourhood – and that includes local children, who make full use of the toy box in the play area. The menu focuses on luxurious all-day breakfasts (from organic muesli or smoked salmon with scrambled eggs to hearty full Englishes), bolstered by freshly made sandwiches, robust salads, and the odd lip-smacking special: perhaps zingy jerk chicken one day and rich duck ragu with pappardelle the next. Caravan coffee keeps the grown-ups happy; youngsters can join in with a babyccino or mini hot chocolate. There’s also a good selection of bottled craft beers sourced from British breweries. In short: something to please everyone.
