Glamourous Chinese Restaurant

SquareMeal Review of Glamourous Chinese Restaurant

A huge oddity on the outskirts of town, Glamorous is attached to Manchester’s branch of Wing Yip, the warehouse-sized Chinese supermarket. With room for 600 customers over two floors, it’s a riot of exuberant red & gold design, all the better to inspire excitable ordering from the dim sum cart & extensive Cantonese menu. There are few surprises among the set banquets, but creative surfing of the à la carte (including crispy pork from the sweetly named ‘roasties’ section) can unearth a few gems. Drinks include house-branded wine.

Unfair parking charge after visit and ignorance on parking appeal

I am extremely disappointed with this store and their chosen parking management service, UKPS Ltd. I received an unfair parking charge despite being a customer at Wing Yip supermarket and upstairs Chinese Restaurant, and the notice was even sent to the wrong address, causing delays and preventing me from responding within the appeal period. When I submitted an appeal, UKPS completely ignored it, only for me to later receive a notice from a debt collection agency, adding even more stress. For those who want to visit this restaurant, be careful and reconsider, cause you will RECEIVE A PARKING CHARGE that cause you 100 POUNDS for parking even you had a meal and shopping there.

Excellent service, delicious food!
Did you know that there are over 15,000 Chinese Restaurants in the UK alone? Now, I think for a cuisine that has developed a huge popularity over the past half a century that’s a lot of room for error. I think Chinese cuisine has managed to get itself put on a pedestal; it is a luxury meal for us to splash out on as a treat from time to time, and if it isn’t up to scratch it is a huge disappointment. Now my partner and I have been to China and there are some incredible restaurants out there – there are also some that are barely palatable for our western tastes. We think that Glamorous Chinese Restaurant finds the balance really well. Glamorous Chinese Restaurant provides such a great range of food that it is suitable for both the British palate and the taste buds of the Chinese. We came across Glamorous Chinese Restaurant on a pit stop in Manchester on our way up to Scotland and found that it immediately immersed you in a swathe of oriental themes and their delightfully colourful décor. We were welcomed and sat down at a seat immediately despite the fact that the waiting staff looked very busy; they were even patient with us as we took perhaps a little too much time over pre-drinks and deciding about what we wanted from the menu (it was such a varied selection, we felt spoilt for choice!). As with traditional Chinese etiquette, the service was highly respectful and attentive. The food came at good speed, and when it came it looked phenomenal; in true Chinese style, they lived up to their penchant for the theatrical – Dragons and lotuses carved out of fruit and vegetables, I always love the dedication that they show their presentation at restaurants such as this. I chose a selection of dishes that are common in China and they certainly did their heritage justice. My partner was less adventurous and had a mixture of western styled Chinese dishes that he said were well above par. Their dim sum was particularly fantastic. When we were finished and asked for the cheque, they were with us swiftly which we found was unusual as we’re used to having to wait ages. Pleased with our service we left a tip and headed back out on the road. We travel quite a bit so we rarely come by the same place twice – but if we ever do pass through Manchester again we’ll be sorely tempted to return to Glamorous Chinese Restaurant – and as patrons of always seeking out something new, we never eat in the same place twice.

For dim sum this is probably the best in Manchester, the trolley service adds to the Hong Kong style authenticity.
