Gandhi serves Indian food in central Portsmouth, Hampshire. It’s been run by the same family since 1979. The restaurant also operates as a takeaway. Food can be ordered via the website and then delivered or collected.
Samosas, chaat, sheek kebab, and lamb or chicken tikka are all on offer to start. There’s also less frequent members of an Indian menu, such as desi cheesy omelette roll and a basket of deep fried breaded seafood.
All the classic curries are available as a main course, such as korma, passanda, bhuna, balti and tikka masala. Special dishes are equally well represented, including taawa chicken, paneer butter masala, nawab special and shahi salmon. Chicken, lamb, prawn or vegetable biryani are also on offer. Away from curries, there’s tandoori dishes like tandoori chicken, lamb tikka sizzler, and masala shaslick wrap. All the tandoori meat options are available combined in a mixed grill.
Vegetarian dishes also feature heavily. There’s vegetable rajma (seasonal vegetables in a medium spiced sauce from Haryana state), bhagare began (baby aubergine sauteed in mustard oil and spices), and punjabi chole (chickpeas in a tangy sauce garnished with red Kashmiri chillies).
As well as the usual selection of breads and rices, the sundries line up contains some interesting new additions, including the likes of cheese and onion fried chips, tikka fried chips and masala chips.
