About
Say ciao to the cobbles outside and head for the ultra chic street-level bar in Fumo, the latest venture from the international San Carlo group of Italian restaurants. The venue occupies two floors (ground and first) of the swish new 1 St Peter’s Square building and is abuzz on a Saturday night with dressed-up drinkers and diners quaffing Prosecco while spearing fat olives with cocktail sticks. Pull up one of the many stools that punctuate a long, marble-effect bar and enjoy watching the able bartenders, neat in their aprons, ply their trade. If you’re dining, a pre-prandial Martini with Gin Mare and a sprig of rosemary gets the taste buds whirring. Alternatively, try house concoction King’s Solace with whisky, ginger liqueur, honey and fresh ginger. Expect to wait your turn when the place is busy; if you’re lucky, there will be a local to keep you entertained.
