Could this old-school chippie be past its best? Stingy portions continue to be the biggest gripe, but readers are also starting to protest about gruff service & a lack of ambience. On the plus side, the original 60s’ decor – all chequered tiles & Formica tables – remains unintentionally fabulous, & the battered fish is still pretty good, especially when the frying oil has been freshly changed. If fish isn’t your dish, there are always jumbo saveloys, not to mention a selection of pies, pasties & deep-fried chicken – just add peas, ketchup & a can of fizzy pop for the ultimate guilty pleasure. What’s more, prices remain cheaper than almost every other pit stop that doesn’t have golden arches above it. Perhaps there’s life in the old cod yet.
