Tantalizing aromatic cuisine at incredible value”; “very fragrant, very wonderful” – just two superlative verdicts on Anil Kumar’s unassuming little Indian restaurant in Ramsgate. Formerly a grill chef at London’s auspicious The Cinnamon Club and later main man at the locally renowned Ambrette in Margate, Anil is now doing his own thing and pleasing the local crowd with his “really high-quality food”. Flavours from the regions dominate the menu, so expect South Indian masala dosas and gobi kempu (crispy fried cauliflower) alongside Punjabi tikkas (including pigeon), Goan-style tilapia curry with tamarind and coconut, Keralan beef and ‘black-spiced’ pork with green chillis. There are also some fascinating crossover desserts such as rose-flavoured coconut crème brûlée. Occupying what was a run-down pub, the restaurant looks newly minted with intriguing Indian artefacts dotted around the bright, airy dining room – just add top-notch service and keen prices for a great local package.
