Found moments away from Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow’s West End, Five March is a contemporary restaurant and bar which serves an affordable, Mediterranean-inspired menu of small sharing plates. Priding itself on serving a menu of seasonal dishes which are made from ethically-sourced local produce, Five March also has plenty of options which are suitable for vegetarians and vegans, meaning that there’s something for everyone. Offering a great selection of drinks as well as food, it’s a stylish spot to visit both for a high quality but relaxed meal or for a few drinks in the evening.
Despite not being the smallest restaurant, Five March manages to maintain a certain level of intimacy which is helped by the cosy, if simple décor; pale pink walls, banquette seating and plenty of foliage make the restaurant feel like something between a café and a gastropub. It also benefits from a small outdoor terrace area where customers can dine and drink al fresco during the summer.
Five March’s predominantly Mediterranean food offering also has some Middle Eastern influences leading to a varied selection of dishes. The menu begins with snacks such as spiced almonds with tamari and gordal olives, before moving on to more substantial dishes such as golden beetroot tartare, maple marinated carrots served with a pistachio and tofu cream, and a chicken burger topped with gochuchang mayo. There is also a range of all-day brunch options available, including a bacon and egg roll with aioli and a flat iron steak served with yoshoku sweet onions, a fried egg, mustard, and toast.
To accompany Five March’s food menu is a stellar drinks list featuring everything from a selection of interesting cocktails to a number of organic wines, the majority of which can be ordered either by the glass or bottle. For non-drinkers there are also plenty of soft drinks available.
