Elliot’s Hackney is a restaurant, bar and natural wine store founded by Samantha Lim and Brett Redman. Found on bustling Mare street, this is the pair’s second London location for the Elliot’s brand, following on from the original site at Borough Market, which first opened its doors in 2011.
The restaurant seats 70 guests and has been designed by international architects Hesselbrand. The pared-back bar and informal dining area features a large, curved bar made of sustainably sourced eucalyptus wood and brushed stainless steel. There is also an element of bringing the outside in, thanks to large timber windows and glass doors which create a natural flow between the dining space and Elliot Hackney’s outdoor seating area. In contrast, the main dining room towards the rear of the restaurant is an intimate and dimly lit space, featuring oak panelled walls, large mirrors, and a citrus coloured floor.
On the menu at Elliot’s, expect to find some dishes that have become staples of the original Borough Market site, as well as sourdough pizzas and dishes cooked on a wood-fired grill. Although the restaurant has moved east, it still champions traders from Borough Market, as well as some of the best producers across the UK and Europe. Dishes you can expect to find on the menu include the Isle of Mull cheese puffs, rose veal tartare and the much-loved signature woodfired cheesecake for pudding.
Naturally, wines form a big part of the Elliot’s Hackney experience. The list of all-natural wines here features varieties from small-scale, low-intervention producers and distributors, building upon the restaurant's existing relationships with wine suppliers.
Speaking about the opening, co-founder Brett said: “We are very excited to be able to open a restaurant in East London, our home for the last decade and where some of London's most exciting restaurants are based.”
