The popularity of casual burger joints shows no signs of slowing down and El Perro Negro has a large share of the Glasgow market, with two locations in the city (there’s a sibling site in Finnieston).
El Perro Negro’s USP is that the meat for all of its burgers are sourced from small farms in the UK, where cows are grass fed and the beef is dry aged. The restaurant’s concise menu is unsurprisingly made up of a selection of buns, bolstered by fries, sauces and a few other side dishes. These are not just your average sloppy Joe’s though, with El Perro Negro priding itself on offering up both gourmet and globally inspired burgers for you to feast on.
If you are feeling adventurous, opt for the likes of the deep-fried panko bean burger topped with kastu mayonnaise, Asian-style coleslaw and shredded gem lettuce, or take a punt on the Korean chicken burger - crowned with Gochujang dressing, spring onions, crispy fried garlic onions and coleslaw. If you prefer something a little more traditional however, there are plenty of options for you at El Perro Negro. The restaurant’s classic burger is a simple assembly of a beef patty with caramelised onions, pickles and burger sauce, while there is also the option to load your bap with bacon and cheese.
From the side dishes, you can choose confit buffalo chicken wings or crispy fried onion rings to pad out your meal, along with the expected fries, here dressed with a buffalo and blue cheese sauce if you so wish. If you are opting for one of El Perro Negro’s more indulgent burgers though, you might not even need a side - just take the Top Dog, which sees your beef patty rubbed with a bone marrow and Roquefort butter, a double helping of bacon, caramelised onions and a black truffle mayonnaise.
