With the original Ekcovision in Brixton closed until 2018 while the arches it inhabits are refurbished, fans should scoot down to its Tooting sister (or the new Walthamstow branch). Set in a series of distressed brick dens, this quirky hideaway has a certain raffish charm, tricked out in 1920s/ 50s retro. It’s certainly casual, but on our visit we saw no evidence to confirm online gripes about slow, rude and arrogant staff. To drink, try various plausible classics and ‘bartenders’ choices’: an absinthe-spritzed Plymouth gin, Earl Grey and vanilla Collins; a Black Cow vodka, bergamot and cherry Sour; or a pretty, pink lip-puckering Pamplemousse Negroni. Post-11pm, a party vibe kicks off when DJs play old-school soul, rock and indie dance tracks. Antic, the bar’s owners, also run other offbeat venues nearby: Tooting Tram & Social and, next door, Graveney & Meadow.
