A peaceful haven in the heart of Sheffield’s bustling foodie centre Ecclesall Road, Dysh serves up hearty brunches, bagels, Sunday lunches, and cocktails, so it’s the perfect choice for any time of day.
Run by twenty-something Michelin-trained Head Chef Alice Cassinelli, with her partner Stuart Broomhead running the front of house side of things, Dysh has the vibe of a family-run neighbourhood cafe while still feeling distinctly youthful, with Instagram-friendly whitewashed walls and verdant, sprawling houseplants. They’re also keen on sustainability, with all their cutlery, napkins, and takeaway boxes made from reusable materials, and Cassinelli using the cafe’s spent coffee grounds on the onsite allotment.
Cassinelli’s background includes a strong interest in pastry, so the afternoon tea menu is a standout here - enjoy creative takes on the classics including salsa verde vol-au-vents and butterbean pate, falafel and lettuce sandwiches, with vanilla cheesecake and berry compote to finish. Vegetarians and vegans fear not, because there are full alternative menus catering to your requirements, and everything across Dysh’s menu (other than the croissants) can be made gluten-free.
Elsewhere on the menu, look out for an imaginative take on the traditional Full English featuring chorizo and mozzarella potato ‘tots’ (various flavours of tot are a frequent feature across this menu), a croissant served French toast-style with winter berries and yoghurt, and cheesy toasties dipped in indulgent gravy. On Sunday lunches, for the star of the show you can choose from pulled pork, beef brisket (or a ‘bit of both’ meats), or a beetroot and herb nut loaf.
Since their immediately post-pandemic opening in March 2021, Dysh has wanted to be a place that brings the community together. They’ve certainly delivered on that promise, and now regularly host birthdays, baby showers, and ‘grazing’-style buffets for special occasions, and each year celebrate a community ‘Dyshmas’ inspired by their chefs’ childhood favourites and festive family memories.
