Dulwich Picture Gallery Cafe

We had a lovely lazy lunch at the DPG Cafe - staff were very friendly and we did not have to wait too long to be seated and served despite the cafe and the gallery being very busy. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and we left as two very happy customers

Its such a shame that the management at this cafe have no idea of customer service or satisfaction. It has a lovely setting and would be convenient if visiting the gallery, but one of the staff was rude and arrogant. I visited with 2 friends and enjoyed a satisfactory lunch, main courses were adequate but nothing special, quinoa overcooked, salmon portion very small, mackerel bagel perhaps the best choice on the day. When it came to dessert I had a dispute over the substitution of clotted cream with ice-cream. This resulted in us leaving without dessert or coffee – and the response was that it “didn't matter”. He didn't care if we were satisfied or not, and did not care about our repeat custom. I am afraid that in today's climate that is not an approach I expect – and it is easy to find better food and more amenable service down the road in the village, or even in the park. Avoid if you want to be treated with even a degree of respect – this is only cafe after all.

Lovely setting but resolutely average food. A fish pie looked promising but turned out to be microwaved. Ice cream was tasteless. Service was patchy, we had to grab the staff's attention to get more drinks, dessert, the bill. The menu looks good on paper but what you get is average at best and thus very overpriced for what it is. Very disappointing. Won't be making a return visit.
