Down The Hatch is an authentic Canadian diner with two different locations in Edinburgh. The team focuses on diner style food while incorporating local Scottish produce in their dishes.
This drinking and dining venue is perfect for the entire family. With both a kids menu and a separate menu for your pooch featuring sausage, beef patties, and a pupchino, you really can please everyone with a trip to Down The Hatch.
Known for big flavours and huge portions, the menu is sure not to disappoint. Served until 11am, the breakfast menu includes both a traditional Scottish breakfast as well as a Canadian breakfast – pancakes, sausages, bacon, hash browns, and fried eggs, all covered in maple syrup. You can also try out the intriguing pancake tacos which combines bacon, cheese, scrambled eggs and maple syrup inside folded pancakes.
On the main all-day menu, you'll find a whole host of meaty, cheesy, and indulgent plates. The signature birria burger is a must – think, a brioche bun sandwiching together a beef patty, braised beef, onion, jalapenos, a coriander and lime crema, and dripping in a house dirty cheese sauce.
You can also feast on thick, filled sandwiches with options ranging from cheesesteak, to spicy chicken, and even a veggie deli with avocado and peppers.
The menu takes fries to a whole new level with their selection of dirty fries that come pilled high with a range of incredible toppings. However, you may want to indulge in the traditional Canadian dish of poutine. The house poutine remains the simple classic of fries, fresh cheese curds, and gravy but the team leans into its Scottish location by adding a helping of haggis to the dish.
Wash it all down with an old-fashioned milkshake. These made to order shakes come in flavours like peanut butter, maple waffle, banoffee, and even espresso; and are served super thick thanks to their ice cream base.
