Hidden away under George IV Bridge, within two minutes’ walk of the Royal Mile, this vintage restaurant and wine bar has a cosy feel: comfortable chairs and banquettes, oak flooring and an eclectic colour palette.
Although it’s from the same group as pizza/pasta eateries such as Vittoria on the Bridge in the city, this is a far more aspirational venture boasting an impressive 100-bin Italian wine list and an elegant Italian food menu.
You might expect to start with Apulian burrata served with pickled wild mushrooms, lettuce and balsamic vinegar pearls, followed by a luxurious pasta course – think strascinati with king prawns, lobster bisque, capers, olives and a herb sauce. For main course, look out for the likes of steak tagliata with hasselback potatoes roasted vine tomatoes.
There’s also a choice of cocktails for those who want a different kind of thrill. All the classics are present – think Negronis and Spritz’ - or opt for one of its house creations like a Sicilian Sun featuring gin, blood orange and Amaro.
