Dishoom, the much-loved Indian restaurant and self-named Bombay café boasts sites up and down the country, including London, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh, with its Canary Wharf opening taking the ninth spot on an already hefty list. This one’s certainly one of the largest Dishoom sites in London, covering an expansive 8,800 square feet of space at the Wood Wharf development, with capacity for over 350 covers across a double-height restaurant, bar and terrace that overlooks the water.
Dishoom in Canary Wharf sits alongside other popular chain restaurants as part of the food offering at Wood Wharf, including the likes of steakhouse Hawksmoor, all-day café Caravan and Emilia’s Crafted Pasta.
The premise behind cousins and co-founders Shamil and Kavi Thakrar’s beloved restaurant is to pay homage to the old Irani cafes that were once integral to the fabric of Bombay’s food culture.
Details about the menu at the Canary Wharf site have yet to be released, but we expect it will feature many of Dishoom’s best-loved dishes, including its signature house black dal, Chicken Berry Britannia curry and brunch favourite bacon naans.
Like the old Irani cafés in Bombay where people from all walks of life rubbed shoulders and broke bread together, Dishoom aims to breaks down barriers in all aspects of the business, from employing a talented and diverse team to implementing charitable initiatives, such as donating a meal for every meal served (13 million meals have been donated so far).
Dishoom also has 12 delivery kitchens available for takeaway as well as an online store where customers can purchase the restaurant’s signature ingredients, gifts and meal kits.
