Sutherland House stands as a captivating historical edifice, meticulously restored to present an exquisite adult-only bed and breakfast spot, complete with its renowned award-winning restaurant for delightful drinks and meals. Guided by the attentive stewardship of Andy and Kinga Rudd, this distinguished establishment has been reinvigorated, now boasting a splendid ambiance adorned with cosy wood-burning fires, opulent decor, delectably crafted cuisine, and a heartfelt reception.
Food at The Sutherland is locally sourced, you'll even find that the menus have food miles printed on them to quantify their sustainability. The restaurant only uses seasonal ingredients, so you can expect to find plenty of delicious, varying dishes on the menu.
At dinner, delight in starters of prawn and cromer crab cake with katsu sauce, chilli, coriander and lime, oat smoke salmon with compressed apple, dill, avruga caviar and buttermilk dressing, and a scrumptious dish of salt baked celeriac, pickled celery, toasted hazelnuts and truffle beurre blanc. For mains, indulge in the pan seared fillet of lemon sole rolled with crab, mango, chilli and coriander and a garlic, caper and lemon butter. For something a bit different to most of the fish and seafood dishes, try the 8-hour slow roasted pork belly with celeriac puree, pig cheek croquettes, black pudding, a crackling crumb and jus. Sides are designed to share, with herb crushed new potatoes, skinny fries, tandoori buttered carrots, garlic and chilli fine green beans and buttered baby mushrooms on the menu.
To finish, don't skip the delicious dessert menu. Choose from Sutherland House's famous bread and butter pudding and vintage marmalade ice cream, a matcha panna cotta with whipped cream and sesame brittle, and sticky ginger cake with toffee sauce, crystallised ginger, banana and treacle ice cream.
