This long-standing Liverpool haunt benefited from a refresh in the autumn of 2019 and looks all the better for it. Open since way back in 2006, Delifonseca is an all-day affair which takes diners from breakfast through to dinner, serving a menu of Mediterranean-inspired dishes.
The restaurant’s dining room is a relaxed space, featuring high ceilings and plenty of natural light, while a light green colour palette and live foliage add to the restaurant’s sense of serenity. It’s truly a restaurant for all, with large groups easily accommodated for and children welcome too, who can dine from a menu specifically designed for them.
Delifonseca Dockside is known for writing up its regularly changing main courses on blackboards that hang from the restaurant’s walls. The offering changes weekly in order to ensure that the most seasonal of produce is being used, but that does mean that there’s a limited selection and that some of the dishes might be sold out by the time you get there.
If you do make it in time though, you can feast on a variety of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Other than the blackboard specials, there is also a regular menu of breakfast staples, sandwiches, salads and sharing boards which can be enjoyed at various times of the day.
At breakfast, you can start off light with muesli, or indulge with a buttered hot croissant or full English. Come lunchtime, move on to the likes of Croque Monsieur, a traditional Po Boy sandwich hailing from New Orleans (a hot baguette filled with slow-roasted beef) or a falafel wrap for vegetarian diners.
If you are visiting Delifonseca Dockside for dinner, you can kick-start your meal with spiced roast aubergine pate with crostini or Cheshire Smokehouse air-dried ham, while you’ll need to consult the blackboards to settle on your main course and dessert.
