Delicious starters include a chickpea, chilli and coriander soup with decidedly Mexican overtones. It isn’t too hot and spicy, but the presence of the chilli does give it a nice kick, and the flavour and texture of chickpeas is perfect for soup. Or, perhaps you fancy the autumn onion tart, made with crisp light cheddar cheese pastry and a filling made with slowly cooked caramelised onions. Served with watercress leaves and a grain mustard vinaigrette. For your main, choose from a crisp roast duck with a confit of apples, pears and shallots in cider, served with new potatoes and braised cabbage. For lovers of anything from the sea, the Californian fish is a cod fillet topped with a chunky lime and coriander tartare sauce, grated cheese, and breadcrumbs.
Even with a full tummy from your starter and main, you won’t want to skip dessert. Try the warm apple tarte tatin – a very famous French apple tart that stays true to its origins. Halved dessert apples are caramelised in a pan with butter and sugar then topped with shortcrust pastry, baked, and served warm with Normandy crème fraîche or vanilla bean ice cream. Or, opt for a classic crème brûlée made with passion fruit and a caramelised and crunchy topping.
