Dalston Jazz Bar can be found just a few steps away from Dalston Kingsland Station, a space that changes as the day evolves. Until 10pm, this space is a restaurant, serving a selection of fresh seafood dishes as well as proudly presenting a well stocked bar, but after the clock strikes 10pm, tables and chairs are cleared to open up the dance floor. There's a live band that keeps the atmosphere electric by playing throughout the night, although they do take breaks at selected times. Dalston Jazz Bar is open from 6pm until 1am on Wednesday and Thursday, and from 6pm until an extended closing of 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. The venue has been described as simplistic from its exteriors, you almost wouldn't know what you were walking past. But then, there is always the blasting, beautiful noise of a saxophone or trumpet that can be heard down the street.
The menu is simple, but always enjoyable. If you're dining with a vegetarian, make sure to notify the restaurant beforehand, as everything is prepared fresh to order. One plate is designed to serve two portions, and you can choose from the seafood special with tiger prawns, mussels, oysters, filled smoked salmon and fresh bread, or the classic bar snack of oysters. Also on the menu is a dish of smoked haddock with butternut squash sauce with vegetables, along with a fish stew, and catch of the day. Vegetarian dishes include mushrooms served on a flatbread with mixed vegetables, and a changing special of the day. Dessert is well thought out, too, and includes a moist carrot cake, dark brownie, burnt basque cheesecake and dessert of the day.
