Situated in a 15th century coaching inn, the Crazy Bear is a five star hotel in the centre of Beaconsfield offering two separate restaurants, specialising in both English and Thai cuisine. The hotel also boasts a bar and a terrace, so you can pop in for a drink and nibble or settle in for a leisurely meal at one of the restaurants, depending on the occasion. The decor throughout is distinctive and eccentric, featuring clashing textures and patterns, lush fabrics, and brass accents.
If you’re after something traditional with a twist, head to the Crazy Bear’s modern British restaurant. Here, you can enjoy contemporary cuisine made with the finest seasonal ingredients, including rare breed meats reared at Crazy Bear’s very own farm. While you wait, try the house oysters with burnt lemon and shallot vinegar or keep it veggie with beetroot fritters, before digging into starters like mackerel with set horseradish and smith apple, or smoked duck with passionfruit and mango vinegar and endive. Mains are kept hearty and satisfying with farm, ocean and field sections depending on your preferences. For a proper feast, order from the Josper grill for prime cuts of dry aged, grass fed black Angus. The rib eye and chateaubriand joints are ideal to share.
Alternatively, the adjacent Thai restaurant at Crazy Bear offers a taste of authentic cuisine with plenty of Pan Asian favourites. Appetisers include salt and pepper baby squid with spring onion and habanero, Thai style chicken wings, and shitake and chestnut mushroom satay with peanut sauce. The menu works best sharing style, and there is an extensive selection of fish, meat and veggie dishes like lobster pad Thai, traditional curries and fresh salads. If you’d prefer to take the hassle out of deciding, there are also three set sharing menus to choose from instead.
