Cote Brasserie brings a polished and contemporary touch of the old school French brasserie to Esher with a simple airy, yet cosy, interior and French food that might lack the same soul as the small family run place only you know about from holidays, but will be familiar nonetheless. Positioned on the high street conveniently near to Sandown Park, this is a nice place to come in for a light lunch either before or after your game of frisbee or even to use as a comforting bridge between late afternoon and evening.

You can have food here at any time of the day and the various menus - breakfast, brunch and a la carte - all bear a hearty French twinge. The French purist will be happy to find classic dishes like Boeuf Bourguignon and Moules Frites, and those who care less about traditional recipes can find solace in calamari, confit pork or even a full English breakfast from the respective menu. On top of this, and this is definitely something you are less than likely to find in the backstreets of France, they have an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu that ensures everyone can eat well.

It might not be the best place for a date if you want to blow someone away with the food but the drinks list is wide-ranging and affordable, and if you can pair this with your good conversation you might be able to have a very interesting evening. Wines sit comfortably in an affordable region but perhaps beforehand you want to go for an aperitif, a Kir Royale to begin the evening? There is comforting reliability when it comes to Cote Brasserie, ideal for when you don’t want to think too hard about what to do or where to go, but still want to eat something nice.
