I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. The service was not great. For instance, my wife and I ordered two non-alcoholic beverages to begin with. The chap brought the drinks, which were in a bottle and can respectively, but without any glasses! I had to get up and fetch two straws from the counter. Thus, a bad start.
We ordered two portions of Plantain with our meal. However, when the meal arrived, he said they only had sufficient supplies for one portion of Plantain. In my view, this should have been communicated to us, before he brought out the meals to give us the option to order an alternative side order.
As to the main meal, the rice and peas, macaroni and cheese and vegetables were well cooked and tasted good. However, the jerk chicken had clearly not been marinated/cooked in jerk sauce but rather it seemed that they grilled the chicken first, followed by a lacing of jerk sauce on the top once cooked. In my experience, this is not the traditional/proper way to cook jerk chicken. Furthermore, the meat was far from tender.
In summary, it is difficult to recommend this restaurant. The other Caribbean restaurant in Oxford is far, far better and that is where we will be returning to.
