Clove Balti is in the market town of Willenhall, in between Wolverhampton and Walsall. It is a classic Indian restaurant in the UK. The decor features high backed dining chairs, compactly arranged tables and large feature walls. It also operates as a takeaway for both collection and delivery.
Starters tick all the expected boxes. Bhajis, samosas, pooris and pakoras are on offer. Samosas come with either chicken, lamb or vegetables while fish is the only pakora option. Other starters include garlic chilli prawns, narhis kebab and lamb tikka.
Given the restaurant’s location, it’s no surprise to see the balti given its own menu section. Tandoori special baltis, as they’re labelled, can be ordered with chicken, lamb or king prawns. Standard baltis are also on offer.
The chef’s recommendations include jalpati (spicy jalfrezi and pathia sauce), murgh masala (tandoori chicken with minced boiled egg) and bhindi gosht (lamb with peppers and okra). Hous specials feature tandoor lamb or chicken Jaipur and murgh keema achari (chicken cooked with minced lamb).
Curry house staples are also well represented. This includes korma, bhuna, dupiaza, dansak, rogan josh, jalfrezi, madras and saagwala. These can be served with chicken, lamb, prawn or king prawn. There’s also a sizable range of vegetarian main dishes, such as mushroom rangeen, palak pani and aloo gobi masala.
Breads are either rotis, naans or parathas. Rice options include, egg fried, chicken fried, mixed vegetable pilau and mushroom pilau.
