Located in the heart of Marylebone, Chotto Matte has opened its second London site, with several others around the world, including Miami, Toronto and the Middle East. This new branch will offer the same delights as the first, with its creative menus of Nikkei cuisine: a Japanese-Peruvian blend that features flavours and techniques from both.
Chotto Matte offers a stylish and contemporary dining space, a dark dining space with palates of black and teal; sleek wooden detailing around the room is brought to life by added artistic flair - part of Chotto Matte’s unique charm. Self-proclaimed as more of a multisensory experience, the restaurant’s interiors showcase vibrant works of art, alongside a signature mural from artist Lefty Out There. An open kitchen stands in the heart of the dining room, lit up with vibrant yellows and oranges and invites diners to watch on as each dish is meticulously created.
Fresh fish and seasonal ingredients are common to both countries and so are common features throughout the menus. Nikkei blends both, combining Japanese techniques (like quickly marinating fish in acid rather than for longer) with Peruvian flavours like corn, sweet potato and rocoto chillis. A number of menus are available here from signature sharing menus to an a la carte that sees sections for the sushi bar, raw bar and robata grill.
Here, you can tuck into the likes of sea bass ceviche with leche de tigre, chive oil and Peruvian coil, or tuna tataki with karashi su miso and a red jalapeno herb salsa. From the grill, diners can enjoy black cod with a chilli miso marinade, yuzu and chives, or pollo yuzu-teriyaki which sees grilled marinated chicken served with sesame seeds and spring onions. There’s sections for meat, fish and veggies to ensure that everyone is catered for.
The drinks menu offers a huge range of cocktails from a range of different influences, including a Yuzu Martini or Matcha Pisco Sour, featuring spirits like the Peruvian pisco and Japanese Gin.
