Contemporary in style, Charlie’s is a modern Scottish restaurant with up-to-date interiors and a locally sourced menu.
The large dining space has the capacity to hold a whole host of guests at a mix of small and large tables. Green leather banquettes are offset but jade green upholstered chairs, while the gold trimmed, marble tables add an extra little touch of elegance to the room. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Charlie’s is an all-day spot to enjoy everything from eggs on toast through to a three course dinner in the evening.
With a fairly short menu, the starters include a couple of vegetarian options as well as fish and meat plates, offering something for everyone. Kick off with hummus, crackers and crudites or a langoustine bisque and momo combination. The latter is a traditional Nepalese dumpling, which in this instance is served with a squid-ink shell and a chopped prawn interior. You can expect to pay between £10-15 for a starter, while larger plates run up to around the £30 mark.
For mains there’s a green curry spiced risotto made with barley for more of a bite than rice offers, as well as classic dishes like lamb with potatoes. Here you’ll find a lamb chop accompanied by a soft piece of belly, gravy, and turned potatoes. Desserts include a bitter chocolate tart and pistachio ice cream.
Aside from the food, there’s a full drinks billing which features everything from Champagnes and fine wines through to premium spirits, beers and soft drinks. Service is easy and friendly, imparting a classic Scottish warmth to proceedings. If you prefer, you’re also free to dine from the more casual, bar menu which includes classics like fish and chips or burgers. Simply ask the staff as you’re seated and they’ll be able to advise.
