SquareMeal Review of Cattle Grid Windsor

With a black-and-white, long-horned effigy on the doorstep, Cattle Grid isn’t timid about announcing its carnivorous intentions, and the family-friendly menu doesn’t mince words either. A choice of ‘cow’ or ‘pig’ tops the line-up, with everything from dry-aged steaks, a dozen riffs on burgers and slow-cooked beef sandwiches to racks of ribs in various guises, plus a host of freshly made butters, sauces and toppings (guacamole, caramelised onions, fried egg, haggis, bone marrow gravy). Otherwise, steer clear of meat altogether with one of their lively salad combos such as beetroot and goats’ cheese or seared tuna with soy and sesame. There’s a full menu for the young heifers too, rounding off with ice creams and milkshakes. You can also drop in any time of day for a special offer of ‘pig wings’, coleslaw and chips for just a tenner.

This, by far, was the best meal I have ever had - and I don't say that often.

Came to Windsor for a quick bite to eat, recommended Cattle Grid by my friend (a local) who had visited many times.

I had the 10oz steak, chips, mushrooms and garlic bread with a cheesecake for dessert.

This, by far, was the best meal I have ever had - and I don't say that often. The steak was medium-rare and so tender, to my liking and they perfected this with a very good sear along the edges making it crispy and juicy with every bite. This couldn't have been easy as it was at least 2 inches thick. The homemade chips were crispy and and spot on. The portobello mushrooms were very juicy and to die for. The 4 pieces of garlic bread was also very good with a generous coating of cheese on top. The cheesecake was absolutley delicious. I rarely have baked cheesecake as I am not a fan, but I had to give this a try. It was rich in vanilla, a smooth, creamy texture with a hint of cinnamon in the base. What's not to like? Portions overall were small compared to what I usually have, however it did fill me, and I do have a big appetite.

The staff are really friendly, and happy to answer any questions I had.

Writing this does not do the restaurant and food any justice so you'll have to come and visit to see for yourself!

Thank you Cattle Grid Windsor.

Terrible Staff

Staff are extremely rude & disrespectful, one has an upset resting face (as if he's forced to be there) the other just runs around replying rudely to anything you ask of her & when you ask for the complaints procedure you're told "Just go on the website" with attitude, the Steak is a myth, the wings are never cooked properly even after requesting it be cooked well done. Their customer service is extremely poor & I'm so furious with their restaurant staff & after asking for names to make an appropriate complaint, I'm again met with Attitude. I will be posting this comment on all of their public pages as their staff in Windsor do not deserve to represent cattle grid in any form or shape. Absolutely terrible, disrespectful & disgusting behaviour towards customers. (Baring in mind I've been a customer for the past 5 years before they were even given that job & just like that I'm gone)
