Afternoon Tea
My cousin and I decided to book for Afternoon Tea at The Hilton Syon Park, expecting an above average experience, primarily due to the fact that it was Hilton.
We were greeted well by the young lady who was front of house and shown to our table. The restaurant area was pleasing and nice and cool on very hot day. We were given our menus buy a lovely waitress called Jenny, who was really attentative and helpful throughout our time there.
We ordered Afternoon Tea, which consisted of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and some pastries. The sandwiches were quite disappointing. They were cut into oblongs and were quite shoddy in appearance and were bland in taste. The scones were what can only be described as stale. They were absolutely rock hard. We mentioned this to the waiter who said he would replace them. While waiting the same waiter called Oskars came over to our table to tell us that there was a very large wedding party in and that they were staying for three days. Whether this was some poor excuse for the food or not, there was absolutely no valid reason for the comment. Why that should effect any other customers is beyond me. Oskars then delivered our tray to our table with what he said were ‘freshly baked’ scones and then followed that comment with ‘this is the best we can do’. The scones had clearly been re-heated and were even harder than before. If that was ‘the best’ they could do, I would hate to see what the worst would be. The whole attitude from this man was as if we not up to scratch as customers. The point is we are customers and he was less than up to scratch as a waiter. A very arraogant and patronising man.
We then decided to sit outside and our first waitress Jenny told us that she would take our trays and tea outside for us and she did, with a lovely smile, she more than made up for the extremely offish attitude of her collegue Oskars.
We shant be visiting again.
