Canvas Bar & Kitchen is located in the Circle Square development on Manchester’s Oxford Road, where it serves international small plates, global wines and cocktails as well as a daily breakfast and brunch menu. The restaurant is part of a wider events space by Canvas, which bills itself as a music venue, members’ club, late-night bar and restaurant. Music plays an integral role to its all-day bar and kitchen, with a programme of curated playlists, regular live music and DJs to keep guests entertained while they dine.
Huge windows surround the main dining room and fill it with a flood of natural light. Studded green banquets run around the circumference of the space, while sage green walls and woven lampshades build on the all-natural theme inside.
The globally-inspired menu features an array of small plates and sandwiches perfect for day-to-night dining. For a relaxed lunch with friends, all its sandwiches come served with house slaw and fries and are filled with the likes of steak, red onion and horseradish, fish fingers with sweet cheese, baby gem and tartare, and buffalo buttermilk chicken with blue cheese and celery slaw. Small plates, meanwhile, include lamb chops with chickpeas, pomegranate, mint yoghurt and pickled onions, duck leg with sweet and sour roast plum and pickled cucumber, and chilli squash with hazelnut, watercress and agave. There is a decent selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes for plant-based diners.
The international wine list spans bottles from Argentina, California, Oregon and Italy, while an array of cocktails are mixed up by experienced bartenders from a range of premium spirits.
Canvas also serves breakfast daily, as well as breakfast cocktails, teas, coffees, juices and health shots. Stop by for hot options, like the Persian breakfast which includes Merguez sausage with hummus, spinach, harissa, poached egg and garlic croute, or just a pastry and espresso if that’s more your thing.
