Although Café Rust now has sister sites in Hove and Kemptown, Brighton was the original. The vibe is very in keeping with the city’s laid-back bohemian feel, with interiors featuring stripped back walls displaying layers of soft coloured paint, a bar made from reclaimed wood and tables in a vintage mix and match style.
Coffee comes from local supplier Red Roaster, while pastries are brought in from Coburn & Baker down the road. Hot drinks include all the various coffee options, such as mochas and cortados, while teas span classic English breakfast through to fresh infusions of lemon and ginger or mint. For something completely indulgent, try one of the hot chocolates topped with marshmallows and whipped cream.
If you’re looking for something more substantial, stop in for breakfast or lunch. Savoury options include avocado and eggs on toast with a hit of chilli flakes or a ham and cheese croque madame covered in toasted bechamel sauce and a fried egg. For vegans, the tofu scramble is popular which is served with avocado and sourdough toast. Sweet treats span granola bowls plus croissants and cakes which change daily in terms of selection but examples might include an upside down plum slice or a squishy Guinness chocolate cake topped with lashings of cream cheese frosting. These are also available on a takeaway basis should you be in a hurry.
Additionally, there's a cosy events space here, which is available to hire. Head downstairs and you’ll find The Cellar which has room for up to 30 guests seater or 60 standing in atmospheric arches which can be dressed with flowers and candlelight for added ambiance. There’s also the option to book the entire restaurant for a larger party. The team are happy to accommodate various set-ups and menus, so feel free to contact them for specific options available to you.
