About
Joyless nightclub Jalouse has been swept away by this ‘unMayfair’ Mayfair basement’s new brooms. Imagine a Japanese emperor’s courtyard, complete with cherry tree in blossom, crossed with a designer Goth New York loft – it’s like being in a film set for a Gwen Stefani and Harajuku Girls pop promo. Open from 3pm, Café Kaizen morphs from a daytime juice bar/tea room/office/boutique micro-mall, via a twilight dim sum and dessert parlour-cum-cocktail lounge, to a full-throttle wee-small-hours shindig. Saké, bubbles, spirits (from £190 a bottle) and mixers, or £8.88 cocktails named Kami Kaizee, Blushing Geisha and Ming Vase are your poison at this unique wonder room of curiosities and creativity. ‘Kaizen’ (that’s Japanese for ‘a change for the better’) or the Emperor’s New Clothes? Your call!
