Nestled away in the heart of Belgravia, you’ll find the only UK outpost of Café Kitsuné, serving everything from delicious breakfasts, pastries and coffees to evening bites with cocktails.
This London branch of Café Kitsuné follows the success of spots in Tokyo, New York, Seoul, and Paris, all of which aim to recreate the feel of a traditional French patisserie-style café but with a slight Japanese twist. The ground floor location of the café means that it benefits from terrace seating on the south-facing facade of the grand-looking building; during warmer months, it’s the perfect sun-trap in which to enjoy a lazy outdoor breakfast or coffee.
When it comes to the indoor area, you can expect minimalistic décor with the odd Japanese touch to remind you of the café’s origin. It’s neutral, fitting with the relaxing ambience of the venue, from its wood-panelled coffee bar to the exposed brick walls.
Depending on what time of day you visit, Café Kitsuné’s offering varies in terms of food and drink, but everything is bright, colourful and freshly made. The food menu, developed by Tokyo chef Yuji Tani ranges from sandos and Japanese salads, to a variety of tempting pastries such as butter croissants and the highly instagrammable fox-shaped biscuit. For lunch, you’ll find a selection of fluffy sandos, including the likes of brie, potato and mushroom or chicken teriyaki baguettes. Meanwhile, the high quality coffee on offer comes from London-based Workshop Coffee. More serious drinks come in the form of a number of Japanese-inspired cocktails, as well as an impressive natural wine list.
Although café is in the name, this site is actually something between a bistro, a bar and a café, meaning that whatever time of day you’re planning on visiting, there’ll be something which tickles your fancy. It’s the perfect spot to pop into for a quick break from browsing.
