Butchies' eighth opening finds itself in London Bridge's latest shopping and dining district, Borough Yards. This social, cultural and shopping hub is woven from historic urban fabric. A lost medieval street system has been revived. Once-forgotten warehouses and railway arches houses are now retail spaces, welcoming visitors from all over the UK. This is a destination for commuters, tourists and anyone in between who find themselves in this, one of London's most historic areas.
The successful buttermilk fried chicken shop opened its first branch in 2013. Now, there are eight, providing customers with deliciously crunchy fried chicken, handmade in-store daily. The chicken itself is higher welfare Red Tractor accredited, and come from a farm based in South Yorkshire. The meat is also halal, no alcohol is used in the cooking process and any bacon is cooked separately.
The burgers on offer have one thing in common: they are seriously indulgent. The original burger comes with house source and pickles, while the subsequent feature various exciting additions. 'Jenny from the Block' comes with guacamole, Chipotle mayo and smoked streaky bacon, while the 'Queen B' has double the chicken, buffalo sauce and blue cheese ranch. Keeping with the times, Butchies has two full vegan burgers, featuring plant-based chicken substitutes and sauces. For sharing, there are buffalo hot wings, chicken tenders and popcorn chicken, each of which is available in two sizes. Sides follow the US theme with fries of the plain, spicy or cheesy persuasions, halloumi fries, mac topped with chicken 'crac' (crackling) and slaw. With eight sauces to choose from, there's enough variety to suit many different tastes.
Milkshakes come in five flavours: vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana and butterscotch, and there are also the typical soft drinks available, as well as Camden Hells lager and pale ale. For serious fried chicken in the hub of South London, this is the place.
