Bundobust is an Indian street food cafe that serves delicious vegan and vegetarian plates and unusual craft beers every day of the week. It’s also home to beers from across the UK and the world, but Bundobust also has its own brewery, and their beer is only available here, on tap. This is a cool, laid-back, 150-seat taproom that will leave you wanting more.
Beer snacks include the far far, which are colourful rice puffs that are dusted with a special spice blend, along with the papads and kichu mix of flavoured poppadoms topped with a pickle of lemon, onions, coriander and red chilli. Then it's the munch dishes, including super fresh smacked cucumber quick pickles with lemon, garlic, chilli and black salt, and the mung bean chatpata with toasted corn, edamame, apple and spinach, tossed in a chilli masala dressing. The rachda pethis are where North England meets India, in a bowl of potato cakes with spiced mushy peas, sev, tomato, onion and tamarind chutney.
A super tasty side, be sure to order the egg bhurji made with cumin and green chillies, scrambled eggs, green peas and coriander. The corn Manchurian is an Indo-Chinese mash-up of cauliflower and mushroom pakoras tossed in an umami hot sauce, and for a heartier appetite, you can order the vada pav which is an iconic Indian veggie burger with deep-fried mashed potato balls in a bun. Yummy!
Definitely order some of the delicious drinks to go with your meal, including one of the cocktails. The Peach Mai Tai is made with Five Rivers Indian rum, lychee, ginger and watermelon, and the alcohol-free Sharab Mukt Crush uses cranberry, apple, pomegranate and lemon. If you need a bit of warming up, try the Bundobust chai, made with boiled milk, ginger, masala and sugar.
