About

Browns brasserie and bar is a restaurant that you'll find all over the UK, the Glasgow branch is housed in an iconic 130 year old former General Post Office on the beautiful George Square. If you're looking for somewhere to enjoy a relaxed yet fine meal, in an unpretentious, stylish setting, you've come to the right place. The menu has delicious dishes to enjoy throughout the day, including specials that reflect the season, a quintessential afternoon tea and freshly caught lobster.

As you peruse the main menu, enjoy some fine wine and small plates for the table of mixed nuts, nocellara olives and padron peppers. Starters include the pan fried scallops with roast butternut and pancetta, along with crispy goats cheese with a roast beetroot and pear salad, topped with hedgerow chutney. If you are a seafood fan, try the platter with scallops and king prawns in a garlic and parsley butter with crispy salt and pepper squid, padron peppers and red pepper aioli. The sticky BBQ chicken skewers with miso, kale and coconut are always a big hit, as is the asparagus and exotic mushroom vol-au-vent with roast roscoff onions, broad bean puree and Chardonnay vinaigrette.

There are plenty of lovely mains to choose from, which are split into sections of meat, steaks, fish and seafood, along with veggie and vegan options. Opt for the braised blade of beef with a potato terrine, baby carrots, chard, beef dripping crumb and red wine jus for a winter warmer, or the classic chicken Caesar salad with parmesan and salted anchovies for a lighter lunch. The lobster linguine is made with a tomato and white wine veloute, confit tomato, basil, lemon gremolata and fresh chives, and we wouldn't be able to say no to the pumpkin ravioli with artichoke, roasted fennel, rainbow chard, dolcelatte and a cacio e pepe sauce.

Totally Disappointed

Restaurant beautiful, reception staff excellent. Booked for romantic meal steak and Lobsters. Very unimpressed with Lobster as it was overcooked and rubbery, told waiter who said " ill pass feedback to chef!"
Wine was never refilled, water was never refilled, food missing from order and then charged for service charged. I was really looking forward to this restaurant but we are now so disappointed with our service and experience. Feel robbed.

Standard of food.

went for a meal with friends and were all very disappointed with our main meal. Starters were good but all our main meals were disappointing. My husbands fish pie contained 90% salmon with one prawn, one scallop and little else.  My fish and chips was cod and chips. Cod not very fresh and covered in hard batter. My friends steak sandwich was cold nd the chips served with it were also cold.  She complained to the waiter and he brought her another portion of hot chips after she had finished her meal. Certainly not value for money. Will not be back.
