As you might expect from the name, Brouge is a homage to all things Belgian – and that means beer, moules-frites, waffles and more besides. The list of bottled and draught brews served in this friendly pub/bistro currently runs to more than 95 labels, from Belgian classics such as Blanche de Bruxelles, Chimay Rouge and Delirium Nocturnum to Goose Island IPA (USA), Little Creatures (Australia) and BrewDog’s devastating Tokyo stout (weighing in at a brain-jangling 18.2% abv). The kitchen also uses beer at the drop of a hat, adding it to the gravy for Cumberland sausages with stoemp (Belgian mash), pouring it into waterzooï chicken stew and whisking it into the batter for haddock and chips. Otherwise, the menu roams around for fajitas, burgers, baby back ribs and braised lamb shank with garlic crushed potatoes. Sunday lunch is a sell-out carvery.
