Bronze Award
What might otherwise be a stark modernist glass and concrete duplex is softened by Broadleaf’s botanical motifs, warm woods, gleaming copper, and cosy booths. The place is owned by the ETM group, whose other City spots include Aviary and The Botanist Broadgate Circle. Drinks of choice are craft ales and cocktails – a spiced rum and passion-fruit Mule or a rye and apricot Sour perhaps – served in an upstairs sports bar whose twin modern shuffleboards are bang on-trend. Bar snacks include bang bang chicken brochette, mac'n'cheese bites, and platters to share, though the kitchen majors in generally fair renditions of contemporary brasserie food: the likes of beef and lamb shepherd’s pie for two, with rich milk-chocolate tart and pistachio ice cream to follow. Saturday brunch comes with the option of limitless Prosecco, Mimosa, Bloody Mary, beer or serviceable house wine – plus a side of breezy banter from chipper chappies.
