The Bricklayers Arms has been in the same family for nearly 60 years. Great Aunt Doll ran the pub for 12 years from 1962 when the pub had four bars. Keith Royston Gardner and wife Sue (Doll's niece) then took over as landlord and landlady in 1974 after a brief stint running Brentwood's Victoria Arms. Between them they managed to successfully run the place as well as having four children (Sarah, Aimee, Louci and Lloyd). Keith’s party lifestyle, humorous antics and natural ability to run a good pub brought customers from afar, while Sue’s fantastic homemade cooking kept the kitchen busy with the place often being fully booked. After Keith's sad passing in July 2016, their daughter Aimee and son-in-law Mark took over the running of the pub. Aimee carries the torch for her mother's great homemade cooking and maintains a party like atmosphere that her father would be proud of. With Keith's countless grandchildren, there is every chance that the pub will stay in the family for generations to come.
