About

What was once Gordon Ramsay’s Union Street Cafe has been given a new lease of life under the famous chef’s Bread Street Kitchen brand.

Bread Street Kitchen Southwark (there are also sites in St Paul’s and Ealing) is an industrial-chic space, featuring imposing columns, exposed ceiling pipes and large floor-to-ceiling windows which flood the space with natural light. Guests can choose to sit at dark wood tables or cosy up on curved mustard yellow banquettes, while perusing the menu of globally inspired dishes.

The menu at Bread Street Kitchen is divided up between snacks, starters, salads, mains, meats cooked on a charcoal grill, sides and desserts. You can expect to find some dishes that have become synonymous with the Gordon Ramsay Restaurant Group, such as the famed beef wellington with truffle brie mashed potato, alongside a few seasonal options and dishes exclusive to this location.

Begin your meal with the likes of chilli-glazed prawn skewers with pineapple chutney and lime or roasted pepper and tomato soup with creme fraiche and chive. Next up, take your pick from the list of mains such as roasted cod or a butter chicken and cashew nut curry, or enjoy meats cooked on a charcoal grill - 10oz dry-aged ribeye steak perhaps, or maybe grilled spatchcocked poussin with chimichurri sauce. Vegetarian and vegan diners are not an afterthought either, with plant-based options including spiced barbecue glazed aubergine with a pepper, tomato and herb salad.

To round things off, choose from a tempting selection of sweet treats: chocolate fondant with salted caramel ice cream and pineapple and melon carpaccio are just two possibilities. If you prefer liquid afters, instead peruse Bread Street’s list of house made cocktails or treat yourself to a glass of Champagne.

Come the weekend, head here for Saturday brunch or a slap-up roast on Sundays.

What are you ……..?

Given you assume a Ramsey venue would be of a high standard , the food was over priced and underwhelming, service was disorganised and slow , of particular note was the mark up on the wine which was excessive. Overall a disappointing experience but credit to the manager who tried hard to rectify

Excellent service, lovely food and great atmosphere.  The wine was a bit pricey but very good. Surprisingly big portions.

It's a testament to the London restaurant scene that I had to think hard to find a restaurant that I wasn't overly impressed with but Gordon Ramsey's Union Street cafe was sadly disappointing. Looking at the menu before going, I was excited for some simple but delicious Mediterranean food that packed a punch. The food unfortunately didn't pack the punch I was hoping for at all and was on a par with high street chain restaurants like Prezzo or Carluccios. I don't mean to say the food was bad (I enjoy a Prezzo and Carluccios), it was just underwhelming for a Gordon Ramsey establishment and came along with the higher price tag. You never know, maybe they were having an off day but the restaurant is lovely and the downstairs bar is great so I would be tempted to go back for another try.

Lovely decor and atmosphere wih a beautiful silver Olive tree as a signatory brand. Unfortunately, the food did not meet standards. We had the set menu. From the mains, the sea bass was terribly over salted and had to be sent back. The pea soup was mediocre at best. Chicken thighs were acceptable. This was partially compensated by the really good service / staff and the discount off the bill when they realised we were not happy and apologised as it was a one off event on the chef being off sick.

The service is excellent, the quality of food is great and the dishes;take you back in time. The ambience is relax, i think is value for money.

The service is relax but presice, the food is authentic, old school recipies and quality of ingredients are supreme.

Terrible! Will not be returning.
Arrived to find an all day party was just coming to an end downstairs so that area of the restaurant was closed. We were the only two other diners upstairs and every single member of staff ignored us to deal with the aftermath of the downstairs event. Sat at the bar for 15 minutes whilst the staff all chatted around the entrance, the chefs were all celebrating someones birthday in the kitchen. They seemed to go out of there way to make us feel unwanted and actually blanked us serval times when we asked for help. My partner ordered a drink and i was ignored. Eventually i was served, we were still the only two people in the place with about 6 members of staff all ignoring us. The dirty martini was absolutely awful, wine was ok. Quickly finished our drinks and left. The bar man was kind enough to add a £2.80 service charge to our drinks, what a joke. Complete waste of money and time. Honestly ive never experienced such terrible customer service in a restaurant. Cancelled our table and left very disappointed. Dont waste your time or money in this place.
