Located in 500 acres of grounds within easy reach of Birmingham, the prestigious Belfry resort has recently undergone a £26m transformation that is sure to boost its prestige as a Mecca for golfing events. New chef/director Glen Watson is responsible for the Ryder Grill and Sam’s Club House, as well as the Brabazon Bar – a relaxed, clubby venue done out in shades of green and brown with imposing grey pillars, a central glass cupola and lots of loungey sofas and chairs. Breakfast is a good call, while the full menu brings deli sandwiches, salads and sharing plates to go with international wines, world beers and classic cocktails (‘from Prohibition to Hemingway’, says the menu). Afternoon tea is also worth a punt (12N-6pm Thurs-Sun). Those wanting something more discreet can hole up in one of the semi-private ‘cabanas’ named after past captains of the US Ryder Cup team.
