Ever dreamed of checking out Kyoto but felt it was a bit out of reach? Roketsu brings authentic Japanese cuisine to a quiet street in Marylebone, transporting you to a traditional yet sophisticated corner of the city. From design to food, the restaurant embodies true Japanese tradition.
Leading the way is none other than chef and owner Daisuke Hayashi, a culinary maestro who honed his skills at the prestigious three-Michelin-starred Kikunoi restaurant in Kyoto. With his wealth of heritage and expertise, he curates an intimate dining experience on both floors. Hayashi boasts many decades of experience in the kaiseki tradition, and he introduces this lesser-known form of Japanese dining London. Kaiseki originated as a meal served to Buddhist monks during tea ceremonies.
Unlike the upper floor Roketsu restaurant, which offers a 10-course set menu, Bo-Sen provides an à la carte dining experience. The Bo-Sen Room at Roketsu is a private, intimate Japanese restaurant in the basement below Roketsu, with only eight seats, providing an à la carte dining experience for chef Daisuke Hayashi's seasonal Japanese cooking. The menu includes delicacies such lobster tempura, charcoal-grilled Kagoshima Wagyu beef with soy glaze and yuzo miso; lamb sukiyaki hotpot with truffle and wild garlic and for a final sweet - treat a matcha and strawberry mille.
It's an intimate affair, as Bo-Sen boasts a private space with only eight seats, exquisitely designed in the Sukiya style reminiscent of traditional tea rooms. Adding to its authenticity, the space is adorned with Japanese hinoki wood, carefully shipped straight from Kyoto to London. When it comes to libations, fear not, as you still have access to Roketsu's selection of over 70 sakes (including two exclusive imports) and an extensive wine list featuring more than 500 different brands, with 20 available by the glass.
