Once an avant-garde Scandinavian arriviste, the Boda Bar quickly became a Leith fixture, with several imitators in EH6. Laid-back and determinedly low-key, it’s more like someone’s living room than
a conventional watering hole, which is perhaps why it tends to attract sophisticates and arty types from the nearby college. Set up and run by Swedes, the Boda has also become something of a
community hub with regular live music (Mondays), singles nights, 'bar boot' sales and more besides. Although they have Black Isle Blonde on tap, the emphasis is on foreign imports (especially
Swedish tipples such as aquavit and ‘the lovely Idun’s elderflower cider’), plus wine and odd shots including unconventional coffee Tequila. One tip: if you guarantee to bring at least 10 people,
they’ll let you have the back bar and a free smörgåsbord buffet.
