Bluebells Café

There are 15 farm shops (and counting) on the Isle of Wight, and quite a number of them now have cafés attached. Bluebell’s at Briddlesford Lodge Farm opened back in 2006, and was one of the first on the scene. They use as much local produce as they can, and even boast their own on-site butcher, who focuses on locally reared meat, including carcases from Briddlesford’s own herds. There are 140 Guernsey cows for the milking (they sell raw milk in the shop), plus beef cattle and calves – the young animals are kept in comfortable straw-filled barns. The rose veal pie is a highlight in the bright, buzzy café, where they also churn their own butter and make clotted cream (the scones are actually baked in the farm kitchen), while the shop sources ingredients from over 50 island producers.
