Set up by an Aussie graphic designer and his Cuban buddie, Birdhouse brings some sunny coffee shop vibes to Battersea with its vivid yellow colour schemes, reclaimed furniture, avian-themed artwork and cute enamel cups – not to mention rows of old medicine bottles (the premises used to be a doctor’s surgery). It’s a slick, smooth, artistic kind of place, with plenty of care and attention to detail when it comes to sourcing – think organic milk, coffee beans from Climpson & Sons, and tea courtesy of Waterloo in Cardiff. The owners bake their own pretty-looking cakes, and also serve up a host of bright seasonal salads as well as interesting ciabattas with trendy ingredients such as chorizo. The name? Apparently it’s taken from the 90s chart hit Birdhouse in your Soul.
