With its sprawling black frontage on the corner of Chambers Street and South Bridge in Edinburgh’s Old Town, Biblos has been a focal point of the city’s social scene since it opened in 1998. Jam-packed with tables and spread over two levels with a clubby mezzanine overlooking proceedings, it offers a vast menu of classic international fare, from breakfast fry-ups and colourful salads to pizzas, pastas, Tex-Mex staples, steaks and burgers, with the occasional Thai curry tossed in for good measure. On the drinks front, expect a full contingent of big-name beers and lagers, a fairly short wine list and a line-up of classic cocktails – from Long Island Iced Tea to Strawberry Kiss Martini via Rusty Nail and Watermelon Clover Club. Equally popular with students, shoppers and the office crowd.
