Searching for a new favourite breakfast place in Newcastle? You’ve come to the right place, because here at SquareMeal we’re breakfast fanatics, determined to squeeze in a meal before brunch on most days of the week.
Sure, in Newcastle as in any town or city, you always have the old reliable breakfast favourites, but what if you’re looking for something a bit special? That’s where we come in with our list of great breakfasts all over the city. After all, nothing gets you set up for a big day quite like a big breakfast.
We’ve rounded up a little collection of our favourite spots, ranging from sit-in breakfasts where you can really push the boat out, right down to some of our favourite grab-and-go options for anyone who needs a quick bite on the way to work.
These days there is a bit of an overlap between breakfast and brunch, so everything on this list is open early enough for a genuine breakfast - you’ll find no late morning opening here, only proper breakfast options, serving real breakfast food. Still, that means eggs galore here, as well as fry-ups, porridge and granola, and even some breakfast steaks up in Heaton. Not forgetting as well, a legendary breakfast bao that you can now grab in Newcastle city centre and Byker.
So, what are we waiting for? Just click the links for any breakfasts you like the look of and you’ll find more information as well as potentially even booking details to grab a table, because yes, some of these spots are so popular you will need to book.
1901 Caffe
What: This popular cafe bistro in Jesmond is always buzzing, and it makes a great place to stop for anything from a full cooked breakfast to a quick coffee with friends. This is one of our favourite safe, go-to breakfast places, as it does a great cooked breakfast, as well as excellent vegan and veggie alternatives. Or you can just grab a breakfast bap to go.
